Critical Role Season Four Unveils the Soldiers Party

Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master the talented storyteller has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a wide array of heroes, and a gripping narrative including angels, fiends, and sinister influences growing in power within the city.

Heads-up: Spoilers for the third episode of the new season follow below.

The Warrior Group Revealed

The latest chapter concluded with a dramatic pause and revealed the premier party of characters who will branch out from the main group to begin their separate journey, apart from the other two tables.

The combat-focused team consists of the determined fighter (brought to life by the voice actor), Thimble (Laura), the fierce warrior (Whitney Moore), the cleric (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie Daymond).

Dividing the Cast

Given a large ensemble, it was obvious from the start that keeping everyone at the same party would be unworkable.

That’s why, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Overture, intertwining the personal journeys before branching into three separate parties: Warriors, Planners, and Explorers.

Characteristics of the Soldiers Table

Per the Dungeon Master, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who enjoy a traditionally charged battle-oriented gameplay experience where non-violent answers are few and far between.

Initially, figures such as the squeamish cleric the cleric might appear unsuited, but the developments of the third episode make it clear why these specific adventurers are ideally matched for the warrior group.

Reasons to Leave

For one thing, the team understands precisely where to head next after a violent initial meeting with the enemy group.

Casimir of Thjazi—whose passing started the campaign’s events—used the enemy for his personal gain, entering the hidden lair, assaulting Thimble, and swiping all the enchanted items to sell off.

The antagonist then paid off his debts and fled to a fortified location in the remote area, beyond the city, with Teor’s brother close behind.

Individual Reasons

Moreover, each adventurer has a specific drive to depart the metropolitan area:

  • Thimble, as the close ally and closest confidant, seeks revenge.
  • The adventurer knows Timmony and warns that it is a dangerous location.
  • Tyranny and The cleric, having defied his family’s wishes to execute the target and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
  • Yet, their reputation as prominent individuals in the influential clan could enable the group enter areas they normally couldn’t.
  • Furthermore, Teor swore a life debt to Wicander for his rescue and will now go with him anywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

In addition, all of them are wanted by the rulers that rule the setting for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city dangerous:

  • The agile adventurer and Kattigan are known criminals.
  • The strong figure and The cleric betrayed House Halovar and the legion of demons they are allied with.
  • Teor is wanted dead by House Halovar.

This leaves them no alternative but to head to Timmony in quest for Casimir.

Upcoming Developments

According to episode three’s Cooldown, we discover that the Soldiers table will be absent in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight cast members to form the Seekers and Planners tables.

Viewers can expect finding out which players will be assigned to which table in Campaign 4’s last Overture episode, streaming live on October 24.
