PSG Overcomes Olympique de Marseille on Penalties to Claim French Super Cup in the Middle East.

Trophy celebration scene

The Parisian club has now claimed the season-opening cup on fourteen different times.

Paris Saint-Germain needed a dramatic equaliser followed by a perfect penalty shootout to overcome Marseille in the Gulf and secure a record-extending fourth consecutive French Super Cup title.

The European champions appeared to be sailing towards a straightforward triumph in the match between the Ligue 1 winners and the French Cup holders after the French winger found the scoring in the opening stages.

Yet, the southern French side struck two times in the closing moments to take a surprise lead. First, Mason Greenwood converted from the penalty spot, before the defender unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking turn of events, Goncalo Ramos snatched a crucial leveler in the dying seconds to force the match into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Chevalier then stood as the hero, saving crucial kicks from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, Vitinha, the full-back, and Desire Doue all converted with composure for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a convincing shootout victory.

The record champions PSG, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Olympique de Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now won this trophy for the twelfth time in the last 13 years.
